to start with you. senator scott brown just tweeted out to all his followers that he was getting on a plane heading to washington. the president has apparently sent over a new deal to the senate. what can you tell us about this new fiscal cliff deal that president obama has sent over to senator leaders? >> well, the power of social media to get the word out. gop sources say in the conversation with the president, he indicated that he does have a bill he would like to bring forward to the hill today. they have not seen that. it would be a package to deal with averting the fiscal cliff. we can infer from that with what the president said before he went to the family vacation in hawaii that he wanted something that would be scaled down, not a massive grand bargain that would protect the current tax rate for people who earned less than $250,000 a year or perhaps a different figure if they reached that. but trying to protect the middle class. so officials here haven't seen it yet, but this is kind of today's volley in what has been this ongoing battle. house speaker john boehner has been saying

excited. let me tell you what we know. senator scott brown, the disputed republican senator in massachusetts got everybody in washington a stir by posting on his facebook page within the hour, here's what he said. heading back to d.c. just learned that the pres reached out to senate gop leadership with a proposal. it is the first such proposal to be put forth. he said, hope it is serious. that got folks thinking that maybe president obama had made a new proposal up on capitol hill but that is now being shot down from all quarters, including from the white house where a senior administration official tells nbc news there is no proposal being sent up today. scott brown is wrong. and also a senior advisor to senator reid saying we are nowhere right now. so you can expect that whenever senator scott brown lands in washington, his blackberry is going to light up with a lot of people asking him questions about this facebook posting that now a lot of folks are saying is not true. so was there something that sparked that that's now not happening? we don't know at this point but that

scott brown in this past election, but now elizabeth warren is already in the senate. this is the other senate seat for massachusetts. today elizabeth warren was celebrating her confirmed seat on the senate banking committee. but meanwhile, scott brown just gave his farewell address and in his farewell address he said in the senate that he would very much like to come back. he told senators in his farewell address, "victory and defeat is temporary." that's how he said it. i would correct it if it was somebody else sighing it but it was him. victory and defeat is temporary. depending on what happens and where we go, all of us, we may obviously meet again." probably not, sir. you just got beat by seven points in a campaign where your main line of attack was attacking elizabeth warren for having native american ancestry. oh, also the bit about you making up stories about meeting with kings and queens. yeah, and then you lost. as an incumbent. by a lot. but still, you never know. has the scott brown comeback fantasy been inflecting the consideration of john kerry as a potential secretary of

that comes out of the story of secretary of state, john kerry's seat will be open. will scott brown run. he put out a statement saying he would support an assault weapons ban. and politico shows him up significantly by 20 points on the top for democratic contenders members of the house in massachusetts. members of congress for massachusetts. but i would say this. scott brown benefits from a little bit of, he's got very proud statewide name recognition, he's been out there. people liked him although they re-elected elizabeth warren. most challenging him don't have a strong name recognition. i would caution reading too much into these polls right now. it's still so early. by the time the special election were to roll around things could be in a very different state and scott brown has a lot of liabilities like he did last time around in a liberal state. >> there's a kennedy in the mix for that spot. there's name recognition. >> and ed markey started running against john kerry in 1984. dropped out of the race. made a run 28 years later. brown, sure we discount the polls right now. the fact tha
